The use of expert witnesses in courtroom proceedings has become commonplace in the American judicial system. Some jurors are more favorable than others toward the use of expert witnesses.
Recent research by Griffith et al. (2005) surveyed the pretrial attitudes of 1,251 jury-eligible adults from 50 states about the use of expert witnesses in legal proceedings. This research looked at gender and prior jury service, and found that females and individuals with prior jury service had more favorable attitudes toward the use of expert witnesses.
